Returning Student Move-In will take place on Friday, August 23, Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25.

Check-In will take place at the Danforth University Center (DUC) on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24 between 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Returning Student check-in will take place at the Danforth University Center. Students can park in the Simon Lot (Lot 35) in front of Simon Hall to check in. This year, returning students are encouraged to sign up for a timeslot to check-in. Returning Students can select their move-in date and time slot beginning on July 8, 2024 at 9AM through the Housing Portal.

If you are being dropped off via rideshare (Lyft/Uber) use “Danforth University Center” as your destination. After checking-in, you will proceed to your unloading zone as listed on the parking placard you receive at check-in.

Once you complete check-in, you will travel to your residential area to unload any belongings. Red bins and dollies will be available in areas to use for assistance.

Movers will not be available for returning student move-in. You can access a red bin or dolly for move-in. Find that information below.

After Hours Check-In

If you are unable to arrive during our regular check-in times, red bins and dollies will not be available for check-out. However, we do have options for you to be able to complete your check-in.

You can complete check-in and receive your room key at the Residential Life Offices (Zetcher House on South 40). Please make sure that you have your WashU student ID. Then, complete Electronic Check-In on the Housing Portal. Completing Electronic Check-In on the Housing Portal will activate your card access.

Early Arrivals

Residents who need to move on campus ahead of Friday, August 23 or Saturday, August 24, can submit an Early Arrival request on the Housing Portal. Approval will depend on the resident’s needs, space availability, and staffing resources. If approved, residents might be placed in temporary housing and will incur an additional fee for Early Arrival housing. The Early Arrival Fee is $60 per night. Students will be billed this amount from the first date requested on their request.  The Early Arrival Request Form opens on the Housing Portal on Saturday, June 1. It will close at 11:59PM on Sunday, June 30. If you have an early arrival as part of a WashU group, do not complete this form. You will be registered to move in early by your sponsoring group. Please check with your coach or sponsor to ensure you are included on their roster. Submitting this form will result in you being charged for the cost of your early arrival.

  • Examples of sponsors include:
    • Athletic Teams
    • Academic Programs
    • Scholarship Programs (i.e. Danforth, Ervin, Rodriguez, Taylor STARS)
    • On-Campus Employers
    • Assistance with New Student Move-In

Cost: $60 per night. Fees will be charged to your student account unless your Early Arrival is sponsored through a WashU program.

Only submit a request if your date of arrival is earlier than your official move-in date listed above. No students will be permitted to move-in on August 16, 17, or 18.

Not all early arrival requests will be approved. Approval will depend on the resident’s needs, space availability, and staffing resources. If approved, residents might be placed in temporary housing.

Students currently living in WashU Summer Housing will submit the Summer to Fall Transition request. That form will open on the Housing Portal in July.

Additional Information

Vaccination and Immunization Records

Upload Your Vaccination Records to Habif Health and Wellness Portal
See information here about how to upload your records and what is required of you prior to coming to campus.

Renter’s Insurance through GradGuard

WashU has partnered with GradGuard to offer renter’s insurance to students. You can obtain renter’s insurance through GradGuard via the Request Forms tab on the Housing Portal.

The Office of Residential Life strongly recommends that all students obtain renter’s insurance prior to their scheduled move-in date and time either through GradGuard or another provider of their choice to be covered in the event of theft, destruction, or loss of money, valuables, or other personal property belonging to, or in the custody of a student.

Room Condition Reports

You will receive information via email about your Room Condition Report (RCR). It is important that as a resident, you inspect the condition of your room and report the information accurately.

  • If you arrive during our regular move-in dates and times, your RCR will be available to you upon check-in via your WUSTL Email.
  • If you check-in outside of our regular move-in dates and times, you can expect to receive your RCR via your WUSTL email within two business days.

We use this form to determine if there were any room damages at the time you moved-in. That way, we can ensure you are not held financially responsible for those damages at the end of the academic year, if they are still present. It is your responsibility to accurately complete and submit your RCR. This will be used to assess damages to your room at the end of your housing agreement.

You will complete the RCR according to your housing assignment. For multiple occupancy bedrooms, ensure you evaluate the correct side/area of the bedroom.

  • Letter “A” housing assignments mean you have been assigned to the left side of the room from the room door.
  • Letter “B” housing assignments mean you have been assigned to the right side of the room from the room door.

We will not begin processing room change requests until two weeks after the first day of courses. Complete your Room Condition Report for the space you move into right away.

Bike Registration

For students who bring bikes on campus, WashU provides free bike registration. If you are a Danforth Campus student, faculty or staff member who will park your bike on campus, it’s mandatory to register your bike with WashU and clearly display the registration shield on your bike.

Displaying a registration shield helps protect your bike from theft and facilitates the recovery of lost or stolen bikes. It also allows WashU to contact the owners of bikes that were impounded due to improper parking, (blocking pedestrian access, for example).

If you aren’t sure about bringing a bike, consider renting a bike from a student-owned business, WashU Bear Bikes. Bears Bikes exist today to help the Washington University community move sustainably. No need to bring one with you, it’s already here!
