Matt Berndt

Keynote presenter Matt Berndt, a 30-year career coach and the head of Indeed’s Job Search Academy, will share numerous insights from Indeed’s 2024 Workforce Insights Report and take questions about their implications for your talent attraction, recruitment and retention efforts. Matt has been helping people get jobs for nearly 30 years. Presently, he is the Career Strategist leading Indeed’s Job Search Academy –  a job search readiness and education program for job seekers to help them get jobs and manage their careers. Prior to his current role, Matt built and scaled Indeed’s executive briefing center program – the Indeed Idea Center – executing executive briefings with talent acquisition leaders from more than 800 enterprise employers in 29 countries. Prior to joining Indeed, Matt worked in the staffing Industry with Randstad and in college and university career services at the University of Texas at Austin Moody College of Communication, the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, and St. Edward’s University, and served on the boards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers and the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers.

  • 8:30-9 a.m. Networking Breakfast
    • Kick-start the day with breakfast, providing you with an opportunity to mingle and network with industry professionals before the sessions begin.
  • 9-9:15 a.m. Welcome from Norma Guerra Gaier, Associate Vice Chancellor for Career Development and Education
    • As the Associate Vice Chancellor for Career Development and Education, Norma leads the newly established WashU Center for Career Engagement designed to provide equitable and consistent access and services for all undergraduate, graduate and professional students across schools and a one-stop connection for all employers, alumni and families who want to support WashU students and alumni in their career journeys.
  • 9:15-10:30 a.m. School Spotlight Session
    • Hear directly from senior leadership and students from McKelvey School of Engineering, Brown School,  Olin Business School, and the Division of Biology & Biomedical Sciences. Learn about interdisciplinary academic and research programs that prepare WashU students for leadership and professional success.
  • 10:45-11:30 a.m. Student Panel with Q&A
    • This interactive panel session will feature a diverse group of WashU students, including scholar-champions (student-athletes), international students, Taylor STARS, and scholars from various programs. Students will share their experiences, challenges, and successes, providing valuable perspectives for attendees.
  • 11:45-12:50 p.m. Lunch with Students, Faculty and Leaders
    • Enjoy a casual lunch with WashU students and faculty. Hear more about what students are looking for in their early career experiences, and how they’re getting ready for future success.
  • 1:15-2:15 p.m. School Spotlight Session
    • Learn about the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Arts & Sciences, and the School of Law from students and senior leaders. Discover the innovative programs that position WashU students for the workforce of the future.
  • 2:30-3:50 p.m. Keynote Presentation “What Workers Want: Insights from Indeed’s 2024 Workforce Insights Report” with Q&A
    • Indeed surveyed 5000+ members of the U.S. workforce in December 2023 to gain insights into their motivations and experiences, and the barriers they encounter in pursuing better work. Get insights from this first-of-its-kind comprehensive survey, including:
      • Do U.S. workers want to look for new jobs?
      • Are they ready to seek out new roles?
      • What is holding them back in their job searches?
