Mission of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards

Washington University’s Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards is responsible for maintaining university policies and procedures governing appropriate student conduct.

Under the Associate Dean for Student Conduct and Community Standards, Nicole Gore, the Student Conduct Board adjudicates violations of university policies; this includes all student conduct code offenses such as drug and alcohol, vandalism, and assaults. Severe or egregious Academic Integrity violations are also referred to the Student Conduct Board.

The Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards / Student Conduct Administrator shall:

  • Act as the primary resource and liaison to members of the university community on matters pertaining to the administration of the university’s student conduct code.
  • Advise students and others about disciplinary options for addressing problems resulting from student behavior within the university.
  • Serve as a resource for dispute resolution for situations involving students, which may not occur in the university community.
  • Hear, investigate and rule upon complaints alleging violation of the university student conduct code, as well as impose sanctions or refer cases to the university Student Conduct Board as necessary.
  • Coordinate the selection of board members to the university Student Conduct Board
  • Prepare written materials and provide an orientation for members of the university Student Conduct Board.
  • Provide administrative support to the university Student Conduct Board, including scheduling hearings, communicating with the parties involved and their witnesses, monitoring fulfillment of sanctions, and maintaining records in a confidential and secure manner.
  • Communicate regularly with academic and administrative offices, particularly with the General Counsel’s Office and the Washington University Police, on matters pertaining to student conduct affairs.
  • Design programs and publications to educate students, faculty, and staff about the student conduct code and the consequences for violating the code.
  • Annually coordinate a review of the student conduct code and implement changes as necessary.
