This week features interfaith events, as well as events offered by some of our Religious, Spiritual & Ethical Life Affiliate organizations for those curious to learn more about various traditions and practices. The Rabbi Ferdinand M. Isserman Memorial Lecture
Danforth University Center, room 276. Free and open to the public.
Ibrahim Abdul-Matin will speak on the topic, “Dominion or Regeneration: How do Faith Communities Show Up in Perilous Times?” Abdul-Matin is an interfaith leader focused on environmental justice and sustainability. His talk will include examples of interfaith partnerships working for economic justice, and call us to consider what our own religious and philosophical traditions call us to do in response to our climate crisis. Abdul-Matin is the author of Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet, and is the founder of Green Squash Consulting, a management consulting firm based in New York working with people, organizations, companies, coalitions, and governments committed to equity, justice, and protecting the planet.
This lecture is presented in collaboration with the Interfaith Partnership of Greater St. Louis, the Office for Religious, Spiritual & Ethical Life and the Center for Diversity & Inclusion at Washington University in St. Louis. Faith Zone Training
WashU Religious, Spiritual & Ethical Life, the Academy for Diversity & Inclusion and the Center for Teaching & Learning
9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Zoom.
Participants will gain increased awareness of religious/philosophical diversity, and tools for helping our community be more inclusive for those of various religious/non-religious identities. Open to WashU students, faculty and staff of any/no religious background. Training provided by staff from New York University’s Center for Global Spiritual Life.
Interfaith Jumu’ah
Muslim Students’ Association

The Muslim Students’ Association would like to invite the entire WashU community to share their Jumu’ah experience during this year’s Interfaith Week! Keep in mind that this is a prayer space, so we kindly ask that everyone who attends is respectful of the environment and dresses modestly.

Decolonizing Mindfulness, Mindful Decolonization and Social Work Futurities
Presented by the Mindfulness Working Group at WashU, the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity and the Kathryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies

Dr. Michael Yellow Bird, drawing on his pioneering work on Indigenous Mindfulness, will discuss the positive effects of mindfulness interventions and how they can support social work values, healing practices, and improve well-being.
