Jason Heisserer

Social Work Practicum Trainee

Jason Heisserer

Jason is a graduate student in social work with a mental health concentration at The Brown School and a social work practicum trainee at the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services. Before coming to Washington University, he spent 25 years as a teacher, principal, and Head of School in the St. Louis region. He decided to change careers due to his increasing concern for the mental health and wellbeing of students, teachers, and school leaders. Jason is interested in identity exploration, sexual and gender identity exploration, developing insight into ourselves, our relationships, and into diagnoses relevant to our mental health, supporting existential crises, and making meaning of our experiences. Jason holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Education, both in educational leadership, from Maryville University in St. Louis. Jason continues to work with local schools on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and leadership development. He is also a 2013 James M. Holobaugh Honor recipient for his service to the St. Louis LGBTQ+ community.
