How do I apply?
In order to be considered for any of the scholarship programs, you must complete the Common or Coalition Application and a separate scholarship application.
Can I apply to more than one scholarship?
Yes. You may apply to more than one of the Danforth, Ervin, and Rodriguez scholarship programs.
When is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to apply is January 4. Applications received after that date will not be considered.
What are the selection criteria?

If I have a certain academic standing, am I automatically considered for one of these scholarships?
No. Applicants to the university are not automatically considered for a scholarship. All students must submit a complete scholarship application by the deadline to be considered.
Who should I ask to write letters of recommendation?
Applicants for all the programs are strongly encouraged to seek a third recommendation letter from a teacher, mentor, guidance counselor, or adult whom you have worked closely with at school, work, or during community service or leadership experiences and who can speak to the traits we’re looking for in our scholars.
How will I know if my application is complete?
Applicants can check on the progress of their applications online through the WashU Pathway.
Can I use essays or materials from other applications for this scholarship?
All essays and other application materials should be crafted to satisfy the criteria described in the individual scholar program applications as completely as possible.
Do I have to attend finalist activities?
All finalists will be expected to attend a series of virtual events to be held in early spring. To be considered for the scholarship, you must make yourself available for an interview in March. No exceptions will be made.
How do Early Decision applications affect scholarship awards and consideration?
Students who apply Early Decision may apply for any scholarship matching their interests. Academic scholarships, however, are not awarded until after the Early Decision commitment date.
If I am eligible for financial aid based on need and also receive a scholarship, will the scholarship affect my aid package?
It depends. Our goal is to make a Washington University education affordable. Student Financial Services will work with each family’s individual circumstances. If the scholarship award covers your financial needs, you will no longer require need-based financial assistance. It is crucial to apply for both academic scholarships and need-based assistance.
Are there costs or fees associated with applying?
No. There is no cost to apply to these scholar programs.
What do the programs pay for?
The awards vary. Our scholarships cover partial, half and full tuition, and in some cases offer a stipend.
How many scholars are part of your programs?
68 Danforths, 120 Ervins, 89 Rodriguez.
What if I switch majors or schools within WashU?
As long as scholars continue to satisfy the expectations of their program, they are welcome to pursue different academic/degree interests within the university upon approval of the appropriate deans, administrators, and/or schools.
Do scholarship awards count toward study abroad?
Yes, if you choose to study abroad through a Washington University-sponsored program during the academic school year. Students who wish to pursue summer abroad experiences should seek additional resources as needed.
Are incoming transfer students eligible to apply?
No.
What about international students?
International students are welcome to apply to the Danforth Scholars Program and the Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program.
Where can I find the OSP?
The Office of Scholar Programs is located on the garden level of the Ann W. Olin Women’s Building, in Suite 005.
