Student Union Leadership Award Application

WashU Student UnionThe Student Union Leadership Award is a $5,000 award given annually to recognize and support outstanding student leaders.  All undergraduate students are eligible for this award, regardless of their demonstrated financial need.   Students who have demonstrated one or more of the following core values and skills will be eligible for the award: exceptional leadership, creative problem solving, commitment to diversity, initiative, and making a positive impact in their organization and larger campus community through service and teamwork.  Students must complete an application to be considered for this award.

May 1, 2024, 12 p.m.

Payment logistics:

  • The award will be paid over two semesters ($2,500 each semester) in the two consecutive semesters (fall or spring) after they are selected for the award.
  • This award is subject to all local, state and federal tax requirements as determined by applicable tax codes.

Award requirements and eligibility:

  • Preference will be given to students who have been enrolled at Washington University for at least one academic year upon receiving the award.
  • Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at Washington University, as determined by the student’s academic unit, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, prior to and throughout the duration of the year they will be receiving the award.
  • Students must be enrolled at Washington University full-time (a minimum of 12 units) during the two semesters when they receive the award.
  • Be on the leadership board, or hold a leadership position in a recognized student organization, for a minimum of one semester.

Selection Committee:

  • Representative from Student Affairs (Kristy Guffey, Chief of Staff to Vice Chancellor Anna Gonzalez)
  • Representative from the Office of the Provost (Aurora Kamimura, Assistant Provost for Inclusive Excellence)
  • Representative from Student Financial Services
  • President of Student Union or president-appointed representative (Emily Chen, 2023/24 Student Union President)
