Recreation COVID-19 Closure Updates

Our recreation facilities will remain closed in accordance with the University’s suspension of on-campus activities and programming until at least August 1. We are working diligently with University leadership to determine the policies and protocols that will prioritize everyone’s safety upon the reopening of our facilities. As our reopening timeline and updated operational tactics become clearer, we will post additional information here as well as notify all members via email.

Membership Options

  • Membership Extension (Default): We plan on extending all paid memberships by a duration equivalent to the length of our closure;  however, we’ll also be adding on an additional 1-week extension to thank you for your patience and understanding. There is no need to contact us if you’d like a membership extension. This extension will be executed once we identify a re-opening date for our facilities.
  • Prorated Refund for Length of Closure: If the membership extension will not work for you, we can provide a refund commensurate with the number of days our facilities were closed.  The prorated refund amount will be based on the per-day rate of your current membership. Since we do not keep credit card information on file, we will contact you by phone to complete your refund.  Please contact us by email with your phone number if this is your preferred choice.
  • Full Membership Refund If the membership extension will not work for you, we can prorate your refund based on the remaining length of your current membership. Since we do not keep credit card information on file, we will contact you by phone to complete your refund.  Please contact us by email with your phone number if this is your preferred choice.
  • Payroll Deduction: Payroll deducted memberships can choose between the membership extension option or a full membership cancellation. If you decide to extend your membership and have not yet reached the full deduction total ($200), you will continue to receive payroll deductions until the full deduction total is met.  However, your membership will be extended equivalent to the length of the closure when we reopen (+ 1 additional week). Payroll deduction members will see the membership deduction on March’s paycheck. However, if you choose the full cancellation option, we will turn-off future deductions and refund you March’s deduction amount.

Locker Rental Options

  • Locker Extension (Default): We plan on extending all paid locker rentals by a duration equivalent to the length of our closure;  however, we’ll also be adding on an additional 1-week extension to thank you for your patience and understanding.  There is no need to contact us if you’d like a locker rental extension.  This extension will be executed once we identify a re-opening date for our facilities.

  • Full Locker Refund:  If the rental extension will not work for you, we can prorate your refund based on the remaining length of your current rental. *Regardless of which option you select, your personal items will remain secure in your locker.  We will not clean out any lockers even if your expiration date occurs during the closure.  You will have ample time to retrieve your personal items when we reopen.

BearFit Training/Pilates/Massage/Swim Lessons

  • Extended Duration Period (Default): We’re extending the expiration date for BearFIT Training/Pilates/Massage/Swim Lesson packages through December 2020.  There is no need to contact us if you plan on continuing when we reopen.
  • Redeem Online Training: WashU Rec if offering one-on-one sessions with BearFit trainers and Pilates instructors during the closure. If you have already purchased a training or Pilates package, you have the option of switching to an online session.
  • Full Refund: If the above options will not work for you, we will refund any remaining sessions for those who will not be returning to campus.  Since we do not keep credit card information on file, please email us with your phone number if this is your preferred option.

**All Pilates Classes at South 40 Fitness Center and Sumers that were scheduled through April 9th will be refunded automatically.  You will not need to contact us for this refund.

Online BearFit Classes

WashU Rec is offering BearFit class videos throughout the week, available on Instagram and YouTube and Facebook to help the WashU community stay active at home. See the schedule below for more information.

Bear Adventures

  • Full Refund (Default): We will automatically refund all participants registered in our last two Bear Adventures (Hike Lewis & Clark Trail and Go Ape!!!) . You will not need to contact us for your refund.

Employee Wellness Connection

  • Full Refund (Default): We will automatically refund all employees registered for Series 2 of Wellness Connection BearFIT Classes.  You will not need to contact us for your refund.

Cooking Classes

All scheduled cooking classes are cancelled for the semester.

BearFit Skills and Consultations

WashU Rec is offering free online fitness consultations throughout the duration of the COVID-19 closure. Sumers Rec members or anyone with a WUSTL Key can register for a consultation in the online rec store. Limit one free consultation per person.

Online Fitness Consultation Schedule
