Orientation Programs for International Students

Congratulations on your admission to Washington University in St. Louis!

Orientation programs at WashU provide information and experiences that will help to ease your transition, give you the opportunity to meet others in the WashU community, and make friends before classes have even started.

Fall Programs

Undergraduate Fall Orientation

All international undergraduate students are expected to arrive on campus early for International Undergraduate Orientation. The OISS will hold two programs for international undergraduate students:

First-year international students

If you are entering WashU as a first-year international student, you are required to attend First-year Internationals (FYI) Orientation. This year, due to COVID-19, we will be doing a majority of the FYI program online, though there may be some in-person optional activities once you arrive on campus. We will have more information about the move-in date and the plan for orientation soon.

International Exchange and Transfer students

If you are entering WashU as an international exchange student or international transfer student, you are required to attend Exchange/Transfer (Ex-Tra) Orientation. We will have more information about the move-in date and the plan for orientation soon.

Those students who have reserved campus housing can move in to campus housing when they arrive. For more details about these international orientation programs, please visit the First Year Center website.

Graduate Orientation Programs

Each graduate school has their own set of orientation events and activities. Please check with your school or department for details about your specific orientation programming.

International Parent & FAMILY Orientation

There will not be an in-person Parent & Family Orientation this year. More information on virtual programs will be available soon.

Spring Programs

Undergraduate Orientation

The First Year Center provides Winter Welcome: New Student Spring Orientation specifically for incoming undergraduate exchange students.

Graduate Orientation Programs

In addition to orientation events scheduled by individual schools or departments, the OISS has international-specific orientation programs for new spring graduate and professional students. Please check out the graduate spring orientation page to make sure you don’t miss anything, as some of these programs are mandatory.
