Orientation Programs for International Students

Congratulations on your admission to Washington University in St. Louis!

Orientation programs at WashU provide information and experiences that will help to ease your transition, give you the opportunity to meet others in the WashU community, and make friends before classes have even started.

Fall Programs

Undergraduate Fall Orientation

All international undergraduate students are expected to arrive on campus early for International Undergraduate Orientation. The OISS will hold two programs for international undergraduate students:

First-year international students

If you are entering WashU as a first-year international student, you are required to attend First-year Internationals (FYI) Orientation and must arrive on Thursday, August 15.

International Exchange and Transfer students

If you are entering WashU as an international exchange student or international transfer student, you are required to attend Exchange/Transfer (Ex-Tra) Orientation and must arrive on Tuesday, August 20.

Those students who have reserved campus housing can move in to campus housing when they arrive. For more details about these international orientation programs, please visit the First Year Center website.

Graduate Orientation Programs

Each graduate school has their own set of orientation events and activities. In addition, there are mandatory events provided the the OISS. Check the graduate fall orientation page to make sure you don’t miss anything!

International Parent & FAMILY Orientation

Parents of international undergraduate students can attend International Parent Orientation on Saturday, August 17 and Parent & Family Orientation: Fall Welcome on Sunday, August 18. Note that first-year International students should arrive no later than Thursday, August 15. Parents will have time for shopping, banking, and handling other logistics with their students on Friday, August 16.

Important Dates:

Thursday, August 15 First-year international undergraduate students arrive and move in to campus housing.
Friday, August 16 Parents will have time for shopping, banking, and handling other logistics with their students.
Saturday, August 17 International Parent Orientation for parents of international undergraduate students
Sunday, August 18 Parent & Family Orientation: Fall Welcome

The First Year Center provides Winter Welcome: New Student Spring Orientation specifically for incoming undergraduate exchange students.

Graduate Orientation Programs
