Immersive Experience

BEAR Beginnings Immersive Experiences run Aug. 20-22 and include seven themes listed below.

The Immersive Experience (IE) provides first-year students the opportunity to develop their community through engagement on and off campus in a three day small group experience.

Students can select one of seven themes to engage in: (1) Arts Under the Arch (2) Human. Not Superhuman (3) Engage STL (4) Experience Innovation STL (5) RISE (6) Serve Your City (7) Outdoor Adventures. During IE, first-year students will be in a group of 15-18 students facilitated/led by a Building Experience and Relationships (BEAR) leader.

What is an IE Theme?

A theme is a specific topic and focus that a student may choose to engage in during the three day Immersive Experience.  Theme areas cover arts, community engagement, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Students will select as many options as they would like to be considered to engage with during Bear Beginnings. Final decisions of student placement will be determine by the Bear Beginnings Steering Committee.

What is a Building Experience and Relationships Leader (BEAR) Leader?

The Building Experience and Relationships Leader (BEAR) supports the Bear Beginnings orientation program through leading around 15 first-year students through one of the seven themes during the three day Immersive Experience (IE) program. Additionally, BEAR leaders will assist in the implementation of evening programs/events, move-in, and closing ceremonies during Bear Beginnings.
