About the Board of Trustees and the importance of student input

Washington University owes much of its direction, support, and stature to its Board of Trustees. Our Board is a diverse group of corporate, professional, educational, governmental and nonprofit leaders from the St. Louis area, nationally and abroad; that are all committed to advancing the institutions’ work by ensuring that WashU continues towards its mission and vision of a premier university of education, research and service, maximizing our resources, and ensure that diverse viewpoints are represented in managing the institution.

The Washington University Board of Trustees is the chief governing body of the university. The Board meets several times a year to review and discuss issues of both administrative, financial and academic issues. The Board values the importance of having opportunities to learn more on the university’s undergraduate and graduate student experience, the views, interests, and concerns of the student body. While on campus trustees meet with faculty, staff and students in informal and formal capacities such as meetings, lunches and campus events, however opportunities for the Board to hear from a larger number of students have been traditionally limited due to the multitude of demands on the Boards time while on campus.

Application Process

Applications are being accepted for twenty (20) students, both undergraduate, graduate and professional students, to attend the Washington University Board of Trustees March Board Meeting Dinner. The students chosen are provided a distinctive and significant opportunity to meet the chief-decision makers of the university.

The selection process will be overseen and facilitated by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Applications will be reviewed and selected by the Undergraduate and Graduate Representatives to the Board and the Student Representatives to the UG Experience Committee through a blind review, with in-person interview for finalists.
