Selection Options

The selection period for the 2022-2023 will take place Tuesday, March 22 – Thursday, March 24, 2022.

During that time, students with assigned time slots will make their group(s) room selection at their assigned time. Students will be selecting based on their group size and what is available for each option. There are two options in which students can base their group formation.

RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE SELECTION PROCESS

In this option, students will have the option to select housing options from their Residential College.

This option is only available for Rising Sophomores. The Residential College Application Process needed to be indicated on your application during the Apply Phase. In addition, you may only group with individuals currently residing in your Residential College.

You are encouraged to make your selections at your provided time as other students will be given time slots at the same time to make their selections. Assigned time slots will be spread throughout the day.

Note: Students in the Traditional Residential Colleges will have the option to go to both modern and traditional style halls in the residential college option. Traditional Residential Colleges are as follows: JKL, HIG, and Lee/Beaumont.

GENERAL SELECTION PROCESS

In this option, students will select housing options from the South 40 (sophomores only), Northside on-campus areas (primarily sophomores) and Off-Campus Apartments (primarily juniors and seniors).

This option is available for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

You will make selections from what is available during your time slot. You are encouraged to make your selections at your provided time as other students will be given time slots at the same time to make their selections. Assigned time slots will be spread throughout the day.

Administrative Assignments

The administrative assignment process is designed to place students who may not have been able to form a group; for students who did not receive a time slot (when the number of groups exceeds available spaces for that type); or for students who choose to participate in the process as an individual.

Being administratively assigned means you will be placed in a housing assignment by the Office of Residential Life. For groups that do not receive a timeslot, every effort will be made to keep groups of students together.

The administrative assignment process will begin Monday, April 4th and extend into late summer. Please be patient as we work to assign you to your housing preferences and try to keep you with your group members.

What happens when you log in to select?

During your time slot, your group leader will log in to make your group’s housing selection. The group leader will see available housing options to select for next year. At that time, your group leader should select the most appropriate housing based on your group’s preferences and what is available.

South 40 Housing Options

The South 40: includes ten residential colleges located at the southwest end of the Danforth Campus. The South 40 is a “small town” with its own fitness center, dining facilities, technology center, meeting rooms, intramural fields, basketball and sand volleyball courts, recreation and game rooms, and music practice rooms. In addition, Bear Necessities, a gift shop; Paws & Go, a convenience store; the mail room; and several student-run businesses are located nearby.

List of South 40 Housing Options

Why can’t all rising sophomores live on the South 40?

Approximately 60% of the rising sophomore class should expect to reside on the South 40. The remaining 40% of the rising sophomore class should expect to reside on the Northside (Village). We do this because, each year, our office facilitates housing selection with anticipated numbers of the incoming class. As a result, we are not able to open all South 40 housing to rising sophomores to make sure that we are able to supply our first year students with enough housing on the South 40 to fulfill their first year residency requirement.

Village Housing Options

The Village is located in the Northwest corner of campus and comprises Village House and Lopata House, and dining facilities. Together, the two buildings house about 337 residents and each floor has one RA. Lopata House and Village House have mostly suites with four single bedrooms and two bathrooms, connected by a private hallway. Learn More about The Village.

Apartments South Housing Options

Apartments South consists of Greenway Apartments (off-campus), Millbrook Square, and University Drive (off-campus) this year. Learn More about Apartments South.

Apartments North Housing Options

Apartments North consists of The Lofts, Rosedale Court, Kingsland Avenue and Washington Avenue Apartments. All buildings in the Apartments North area are off-campus. Learn more about Apartments North.

Time Slots Explained

A time slot is the date and time at which the group leader is able to select a housing placement for their group.

For example, if your time slot is March 30, 2021 at 10am, your group leader is able to log onto the WashU Housing Portal to select housing and assign group members to bed spaces at or after the time slot. All group members must have their application in by the deadline to be eligible for a time slot.

Time slots are randomly generated for all groups participating. Groups who do not receive a time slot will be administratively assigned.

If you don’t receive a timeslot, it does not mean that you have done anything wrong. There are a certain number of spaces available among each room type. If the number of groups interested in a particular room type exceeds what is available, you may not be assigned a timeslot. You will be asked by our office to either regroup or decide to be administratively assigned for best chances of remaining with your group.
