Jen Durham Austin, LCSW is honored to join Washington University’s RSVP Center as a Support Services Counselor. Jen grew up in St. Louis and received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Social Work degrees from Washington University in St. Louis with an emphasize on mental health within the LGBTQIA populations. Jen Durham Austin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Missouri, and was previously licensed as a LCSW in the state of California since 2011.
Prior to this, Jen worked at Stanford University providing counseling and crisis support to students impacted by relationship and sexual violence. Before working at Stanford University, Jen spent 8 years collectively as a Family Advocate, Mental Health Clinician, and eventually a Clinical Supervisor at the Los Angeles LGBT Center providing individual and group counseling to LGBTQIA young adults (18-26 years old) residing in the Center’s Transitional Living Program. Jen served as a trainer for the Hollywood Homeless Youth Partnership facilitating trauma-informed care trainings to local services providers. Jen also had a private practice in West Hollywood, CA from 2009 to 2014 offering individual, and couples counseling.
A portion of Jen’s time will be dedicated to intentional outreach with students who are impacted by relationship and sexual violence and who report experiencing barriers to accessing services. Historically that includes LGBTQIA and gender-expansive students, female students of color, first generation college students, international students, and students with fewer financial resources. The majority of Jen’s time will be devoted to providing trauma-informed direct counseling services for students seeking support from the RSVP Center. Jen is excited to be returning to her Alma Mater and to be working within the St. Louis community again.
