Jamaica Cannon (she/her) is the associate director for rec sports & camps for the Department of Athletics and Recreation.
As a member of Recreation’s senior leadership team, she provides oversight of Intramurals, Club Sports, Varsity Camps & Clinics, and Division-wide special events. Cannon coordinates facility rentals and manages the South Campus.
In her role, Cannon provides leadership to a comprehensive Intramural Sports program for over 2,500 students annually that offers 20 sports leagues, tournaments, and events for both undergraduate and graduate students. The Club Sports program has 41 active clubs that compete nationwide.
Cannon collaborates with campus partners to implement large-scale events, including Late Night at the Rec and Dr. G’s Fun House. She was instrumental in implementing the Student Health Ambassador (SHA) program in the Fall of 2020. For this work, Sumers Recreation received a NIRSA 2022 Creative Excellence Award for finishing first in the COVID Communication Plan category, co-led by Cannon.
Prior to arriving on the Danforth campus, Cannon worked in the Oklahoma State University Competitive Sports Office. Cannon had several roles, most recently serving as the Support Specialist for Intramural Sports and Financial Manager of Club Sports.
Cannon is active in national organizations, including NIRSA, NACDA, NACMA, and serves on several state, regional, and national committees. She currently serves on the inaugural Social Justice Work Team for the Championship Series.
She holds an MBA from Longwood University and an undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University. She is a collegiate basketball referee, a position she has held since 2005.
